WHY IS MY BABY CRYING

A crying baby can make any parent feel desperate, especially first time parents. It can be frustrating when you are willing to do anything for her but only if you could figure out what is that she wants(I remember myself saying to my newborn in desperation ‘aleen, ill do whatver you want in a second but please help me understand, what do you need’).

Here are few tips that made our lives easier and can help parents of otherwise healthy baby :

•Crying is how babies communicate. You just have to interpret it.

•STAY CALM: it’s difficult but very important to have control on your nerves. Those nerve wrecking screams can drive you crazy. But if you continue to be in that state, it will get messier on exponential rate. Baby will start screaming louder, things will start falling, suddenly phone and door bell will ring simultaneously and the ripple effect will go on.

So you have to consciously remind yourself that only you have the power to calm yourself down. Take a deep breath, put yourself together, take charge of the situationand start checking for possible reasons.

CHECK FOR :

•HUNGER (feed your baby).

•DIAPER (it can be a dirty diaper or diaper rash. Change diaper or give some air time)

•TEMPERATURE (Your baby might be too cold or too hot. Maintain temperature )

TIREDNESS (when tired, babies rub eyes or yawn. Help your baby sleep)

•CLOTHES (That new dress might be uncomfortable or may be got too wet because of drooling. Get your baby into something comfortable)

•In STOMACH PAIN, baby might pull the legs up towards stomach, stomach might feel hard. Help your baby burp or release gas. Baby massage and exercises are also helpful )

•OVER STIMULATION is caused be sensory overload. Being held too long (especially when they’re passed around a lot), staying awake too long, too much activity (busy sights, loud sounds, pungent smells, being exposed to technology, etc.), and interruptions to in routine are the biggest culprits of over-stimulation.
Return to schedule, Let your baby nap, and rescue your baby from the source(s) of stimulation by moving her into a more soothing, quiet environment. If you’re out and about, find a quiet room to escape to, for a good 5 minutes or go to the restroom to give your baby a diaper change and then let her lay there for a little bit, without being held.

•FEAR (Hysterical cries indicate fear. Your baby will usually watch mom or dad intensely, almost as if to ask how dangerous this situation is. A baby that cries out of fear is usually quite easily soothed by holding, talking gently and taking him or her away from whatever scared your baby.)

•PAIN (Teething, tummy pain, a sore throat, tipping over from sitting on the floor etc etc. will of course make your baby cry too.)

And sometimes babies just want to cry. Try to empathize, being helpless in an entirely new environment can be very frustrating.

You can also try to :
•Swaddle baby.

•Hold her on her side or tummy-down on your forearm.

•Say "Shhh, shhh, shhh" (as loud as a running shower) in baby's ear to mimic the sounds he heard in the womb.

•Swing baby back and forth with a light jiggling motion while supporting his head and neck.

(These tips are for otherwise healthy baby)
