Vacation with a baby in Koh Samui ( The Baby Friendly Island)
After planning for a new place every weekend ( USA, Europe, Bali, Baku, Kenya...) and countless discussions between restless me and my risk averse husband we ended up going to Thailand.
Why Thailand, yet another time? Because Thailand means Food, Beaches, Party, Shopping all in one (and of course my risk averse husband is always in the favor of going to the place he has already been to).
Ten days vacation to kosamui and Bangkok is what we finally (read
not easily) agreed on. Here are the
highlights of our powerhouse of fun holiday:
I have learnt the importance of travelling light the hard way so I packed only couple of pants and tops for my self and necessities for Aleen (didn't want to take risk with milk but everything else is available there) .
We booked the night- flight that takes shortest route to
Bangkok. Fortunately Aleen stayed asleep
throughout but since we didn’t get the bassinet seat by the end of the flight I
couldn’t feel my arm.
There was a transit of six hours. We assumed that most of
our time will be spent in immigration and getting luggage and checking in again
for the flight to kosamui. But surprise surprise !
You get PREFERENTIAL
treatment everywhere if you are travelling with an infant. No long queues for immigration and security check, people offer your their seat, give you way,
ignore your clumsiness, help you with your stuff (even with changing diaper
just imagine).

Quieter end of the beach is always our preference because it’s good to have
easy access to not-so crowded beach, you can step out anytime and relax by the
beach or swim in the ocean. And whenever you want to party you can walk to the
more happening end.

Amari is our kind of hotel. Calm, beautiful, personalized service and now
that we have a baby it has become even more attractive because they have a
wonderful play area and baby sitters (read angels).

For
seven days all three of us had a blast.
Every day our food fiesta started with delicious breakfast
buffet followed by trying a new Thai dish for lunch and dinner every day.
Obviously there is no count of coconut water, corns,Thai version of pancakes,
fruits and ice cream rolls.
Aleen would usually just sit on the baby seat , stay
busy with finger food and enjoy company of the servers who would sing and dance
for her if not then me and Ali would take turns. In fact taking turns was what got us through in every activity, from pushing stroller around Chaweng or staying in with Aleen when she was napping while one of us would go out.

Little miss sunshine had her own fun filled routine.
‘Breakfast, Nap, Play Area-Time, Nap, Swimming time, Nap,
walk on the beach, and nighty night.’
So we had to schedule our activities around this routine but we managed to not miss out on anything.
Swimming in crystal clear water , chilling on fine white sand
beaches (this was tricky, because Aleen wanted to eat sand instead of playing),
sightseeing, strolling around Chaweng
walking street, exploring art galleries where you can stand and watch artists
paint, relaxing massage, even manged to sneak out to see sun rise and of course best part for me ‘the
cooking class’

The very kind owner of Sala Thai restaurant at Chewang beach
agreed to arrange personal cooking lessons for me with their Chef (his beautiful
wife).
We have had Pad-Thai and Green Curry at countless restaurants but Sala
Thai’s version is the best and that’s what I learnt from them.
We had two days in Bangkok the shopping hub but I
have a tiny issue , whenever there are too many options I get overwhelmed, indecisive
and end up getting nothing.
Bangkok was no exception, Ali shopped more than me and whatever
I got was what Ali pushed me for. Now I am sitting here thinking about the shoes
I missed and the top I left so Yeah! that’s me and that was our first vacation
with baby Aleen.
